In mid-December, we held our first casting call at Willy's BBQ in Augora Hills, California ... and had a great turn-out. More than 40 fighters showed up to audition with us for our very first event. We did tons of interviews, and are still deciding on fighters, but another casting call is coming.
Below are a few photos from that night:

Our first casting call for fighters and models went down in Agoura Hills last week. Nearly 40 fighters showed up to audition, and we found a lot of good talent. A great start to our upcoming, first Cage Vs Cons event.
Staffers from the Ventura County Star were on hand, taking photos and interviewed Cage founder Michael Lynch and Scott Hemming, CEO and founder of Caged In Promotions (who is our lead promoter). Below is an excerpt of the paper's article about Cage Vs Cons:
Michael Lynch looked up and smiled. Finally, answers he had been waiting all night to hear were starting to roll in to his questions: “Have you ever been incarcerated?” and “Have you ever been involved with gangs?”
“All right, now we’re getting somewhere,” said Lynch, after Tom Gloudeman, a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter from Palmdale, admitted on camera that he once spent six months behind bars.
It was not your typical casting call. Lynch asked those questions last week on the outdoor patio at Willy’s BBQ and Grill Smokehouse in Agoura Hills. It was the first of two events to seek participants for “Cage Vs. Cons,” a music festival and night of MMA fights planned May 21 for the Los Angeles Sports Arena. The fighters will be featured in a documentary ahead of time to help fans decide who they want to root for.
Next up was Aaron Maynard, another professional MMA fighter from Inez, Ky., who arrived in California two weeks ago to train with former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten at his Elite Mixed Martial Arts gym in Thousand Oaks.
Maynard, a lanky white kid who you’d picture taking cookies to his grandmother on Sundays, was asked if he’d ever done any underground street fighting and the questions about gangs, which seemed to puzzle Maynard. “I guess they probably don’t have too many gangs in Kentucky,” Lynch said.
“Not too many,” replied Maynard, who then mentioned that his father was a Kentucky state trooper. Bingo. Lynch threw his head back again and imagined the possible matchup: Gloudeman vs. Maynard. A bout made in heaven for fans who attend the cage matches that are officially sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission. It will pit professional fighters who have served time against those who haven’t.
The concept was created by Lynch, founder of Felony Fights, which has produced some of the top underground fight videos on the market today. It is being promoted by Scott Hemming, CEO and founder of Caged In Promotions, a Ventura County promotional events company that has put on six MMA fights at venues such as the Hyatt Westlake Plaza and the Oxnard Performing Arts and Convention Center.
Thanks to the Ventura County Star for their support. Read the full story over at VCStar.com.
